Bloom Day June 2010...

Thank you, Carol, for once again hosting Garden Bloggers Bloom Day. Be sure to head over to May Dreams Gardens to find other gardens to visit. I've got so much blooming right now that it won't all fit in one post! So, take a look at my recent posts (to the left) to see some of what isn't pictured today. In these pots are Hydrangea 'Endless Summer,' my Balloon Flowers, and some Coral Bells (Heuchera). I've actually got a couple of other Hydrangeas blooming, too: 'Mini Penny' and 'Light-O-Day.' Oh, and also some cuttings from neighbors' Hydrangeas have a flower or two.

Julie's White Garden is the most well-maintained and it is so peaceful and cool. Here's what she has blooming: bedding Begonia, Bacopa, Veronica alpina 'Alba,' Salvia 'Snow Hill,' a white Hydrangea, Calamint, White Fountain Gaura, and Feverfew. As you can see, she likes ferns. On her wish list is a Climbing Fern to go in the center of the lattice. I think that will be so amazing.

This is a newer planting and it needs a little adjusting, but some of it is just great! It includes: Buddleia 'Nanho Blue,' Salvia guaranitica 'Argentina Skies,' 'Hyperion' Daylily, 'Moonbeam' Coreopsis, Verbena bonariensis, Alyssum (reseeded), some Johnnie Jump-Ups, Salvia coccinea, which reseeded itself there, and a pink Yarrow.

And in this picture, in addition to the above plants, are: 'Rozanne' Geranium, Lambs Ear, Buddleia 'Nanho Blue,' soapwort, and Kirstin heading off to her college classes. (She accidentally got in the picture, but it was cute.)

Then there are these two beds on either side of the path. They are filled with: Cleome, Morning Glories, Salvia Coccinea that has reseeded itself, (the Cleome and Morning Glories have also reseeded themselves), 'Ballerina' Rose, a couple of Agastache, Buddleia 'Lochinch,' Catmint, Salvia guaranitica 'Black and Blue' and 'Argentina Skies,' Feverfew, Verbena bonariensis (reseeded), Salvia 'Snow Hill' and 'Blue Hill,' Salvia farinacea, 'Moonbeam' Coreopsis, soapwort, and 'Betty Prior' Rose. Oh, and reseeded Bachelors Buttons. And some Johnnies.

I have a number of roses either blooming or with plenty of buds. They include: Double Delight, Molineux, Betty Prior, Ballerina, The Fairy, Pink Gruss an Aachen, an orange rose, and the very fragrant one below, Lyda Rose. Thanks for stopping by my garden. Let me know how you enjoyed your visit and I do hope you'll come back again!

Have a beautiful day!

Bloom Day February 2010...

Thank you to Carol at May Dreams Gardens for hosting Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day! Here's what's blooming for me right now.

If anyone recognizes this plant, PLEASE leave me a comment and let me know what it is! A friend gave me this plant about 7 years ago when I lived in California. Right now the leaves and stems are rather elongated from the lack of sunlight in the house and it desperately needs to be divided, but it still blooms for me. I have no idea what it is, but I would LOVE to know!

{?????}

This little corner holds most of what is blooming or colorful in my house at the moment. Of course, the poinsettias are always bright. I also have rooted coleus cuttings that are vibrant.

My peace lily just started blooming again.

{Spathiphyllum}

The last bloom of the indoor 'Tête-à-tête' daffodils.

{Narcissus 'Tête-à-tête'}

The African Violet plants (3 in one pot) that my sister-in-law gave me have some flowers: white with hints of lilac.

{Saintpaulia}

And blue with white edges.

{Saintpaulia}

On my table resides the most recent addition to my collection: a charming fairy primrose.

{Primula malacoides}

Outside, I am still waiting for my daphnes to bloom. I think they will open any day now and then I will have their wonderful fragrance. Yum!

{Daphne odora}

And, of course, some of the daffodils are almost starting to show their color!

{Narcissus}

Have a beautiful day!

Bloom Day January 2010...

Quite honestly, the only plants that are truly blooming are my beloved, cheerful Johnnies. Maybe that is cheating because if not tricked into blooming in the fall, they wouldn’t bloom until the spring.

But I am so thankful to have them. And they don’t seem to complain about being persuaded to flower throughout the winter for me.

The African violet my sister-in-law brought me at Thanksgiving is still blooming, so I think it is probably o.k. for me to take credit for keeping it going. Although, now that I have said that, it will probably stop blooming and then die.

I am starting to see leaf buds on many of my plants which gives me hope that spring actually will come this year. But there aren’t many flower buds yet. My camellia is one of the ones with flower buds.

{Camellia - I don't know the rest; I've lost the plant tag.}

The buds on this daphne will soon open to their fragrant white blooms.

And you can already see the pink forming on this daphne.

My Purple Rain pansies look a bit bedraggled, but they continue to struggle on. I guess winter is taking its toll on them as it is on me.

It finally warmed up enough that I was able to look into my greenhouse without fear of heat escaping and I was absolutely thrilled to find that everything is doing well. It was such a relief to know that my plants stayed warm enough not to be damaged while it was so cold outside. And I found a tiny pink bud!

One of my pitcher plants has a bud on it. I think that is the bud I am most excited about right now.

But my Johnnies continue to be my favorites as they unabashedly cheer me on through winter.

Have a beautiful day!
