So much Muscari...

There is one spot in my garden where my Muscaris have multiplied prolifically.  (I don't think that "Muscaris" is truly the plural, but I like the way it sounds!)

Each year they have reseeded and now have created such a lovely view, regardless of the thorny canes of a New Dawn rose.

I love the color combination of the little blue Muscari blooms with the green of the fuzzy Lamb's Ear.

Oh, so much Muscari!

A spring day...

Finally!  The Tulip Poplar trees are getting their leaves.  This is such a welcome sight!

 My chickie dudes like the spring day, too.   Here they are, back in their pen ~ for safety.  But earlier, they got to wander around the yard, scratching and pecking.  Yes, they are hens, but I still call them my dudes.

 Daffodils!  So sunny and cheerful.  I didn't realize that I had a white one.

A Muscari has seeded itself at the edge of the stone path.   Isn't that how we are sometimes?  Trying to grow in a difficult, "rocky" place?

The blooms on this Veronica are tiny, but oh, so beautiful.   I love the blueness of them.

These are Tete a Tete Daffodils that I planted in the fall.  I think they are so charming.

More Spring....

Overall, it still looks pretty dreary out there in my garden.  But there are a few plants that are bravely making their way and sharing their beauty.

The flowering plum is covered with blossoms.  It will get its purple leaves later.   That is a close-up of its blooms above.

It grows next to - way too close to - a holly that will bloom later.  The forsythia bush is also there.  Think how pretty this would all look if the forsythia was well pruned and in full bloom with periwinkle in full bloom beneath it.  And daffodils to boot.  There is always hope...

Speaking of daffodils... There are several different kinds of daffodils here and there in my yard.  None in abundance this year, though.  This beauty was looking down ~ maybe because it is raining.

The beautiful blue hyacinths are still blooming.

My daphne bushes don't look all that great; the winter has been hard on them.  But they are blooming.  They smell like heaven.  Daphne are notoriously difficult and short-lived so I am pleased to have had mine for so long.

It appeared as though maybe my variegated hydrangea hadn't made it through the winter.  But that is ~ thankfully ~ not the case.

And my rose bushes are starting to show their new leaves.   This is New Dawn, my climbing rose.

White Muscari

Well, hello!

I know it's been awhile since I've blogged, but I'm still here.

I have, in addition to hundreds of blue Muscaris, white Muscaris blooming!

There is a clump of white Muscaris that I've had for a couple of years in a raised bed.  These photos, however, are of a large flower pot filled with Johnnies and and Muscaris.

I actually bought these Muscari bulbs in a cheap box at Food Lion!   I didn't expect them to grow at all, but at the time, I was craving the hope of Muscaris, so I got them and planted them. 

And what beautiful results!

A spring day...

Today was absolutely beautiful. I didn't really do much in the garden - I mostly just enjoyed the day, which is something that I do too little of as I usually keep myself way too busy. I did plant out a six-pack of Lobelia into the container of Wintergreen that I had planted with my nephews months ago. I think that it will look charming with the trailing blue flowers later in the spring and summer.




I saw a yellow swallowtail butterfly visit this clump of Muscari. It was only for a moment, but it was enchanting. Like a reminder that often things are fleeting.




And as I was driving today, I realized I was completely wrong about my neighbor's trees; they are definitely not Redbuds. I saw Redbuds blooming today and remembered how much I love their color, which, by the way, is not red. Yes, I came home with another plant: a Creeping Phlox. Oh, and here is a pretty corner of my garden that I will tell you about some other time. It just looked so nice today.

Beautiful blues...

Some days are just long and a bit too much. Today was one of those days. It wasn't a bad day. Nothing terrible happened. It has just been a long day.



So it was such a balm to pull into the driveway and see the soothing beauty of cheerful Johnnies and bright yellow daffodils and gorgeous blue Hyacinths and Muscari.



Their wonderful fragrance only added to the serenity.



I hope they bring a bit of cheer to your day, too.

An exciting discovery...

There are so many new things in my garden. New leaves. New buds. New flowers. It is wonderful that so much is happening once again. And, of course, I am finding more and more things that need to be done. Pruning, feeding, mulching, transplanting. I am even contemplating almost completely redoing one of my flower beds. And I haven't even started on the vegetable garden yet.




I found that my camellia has bloomed at last. She is so pretty. She reminds me of picking camellias for flower arrangements when I was growing up. But my most exciting discovery of the day is hidden amongst the leaves of my grape hyacinth bulbs. Look what I found:
