Sarracenia...

I think Pitcher Plants are amazingly cool. They look strange, they eat bugs (well, they digest them, anyway), and they have unusual, but very interesting flowers. My Yellow Pitcher Plant (Sarracenia flava) has bloomed and its "leaves" are starting to open into pitchers. I have a beautiful picture of the bud of this flower, but I can't find it in all of my photos. I'll keeping looking, though.

The reddish bud of my Purple Pitcher Plant (Sarracenia purpurea) has opened to show green inside. You know, the color combinations that show up in plants are pretty remarkable. The pollen of these flowers is inside the "bowl" that the outer petals fall over.

Sarracenia leucopylla 'Tarnock' is my most recent addition to my bog garden. I got it last fall and I didn't think it was going to make it through the winter. However, much to my delight, it is now forming new pitchers. Maybe next year it will have flowers.

Can you guess why I am excited about my Venus Fly Trap plant?

Have a beautiful day!
